Q. How long have you worked on the property?
A. I’ve been at the property on and off since 1976 when it was Kauai Surf, working on the course for my dad Tom Hines and then most recently for the last 7 years.
Q. Favorite dish or drink at Hualani's?
A. The tofu bowl is yummy and any drink that Matt or David makes with ginger is a winner.
Q: Tell us about Operation 36 that you have started here recently:
A: This program is amazing. We start around the green and work our way back to the tee as we progress. It really takes away the scary aspect of players thinking they need to bomb a 200 yard shot from the get-go. Our first session just ended and it was so much fun to see the progression of players and most of all, seeing them really enjoy the game. It brings me such joy to see them enjoying golf.
Q. Favorite place in the resort:
A. The entire course….. every hole is different offering varied shots for each type of golfer. The #6 fairway offers views of the Haupu Mountain Range and #16 tee box treats you to a the view of the Pacific with the mountains across the sea just begging to be explored.
Q. Favorite spot on the island:
A. I can’t tell you or else it wouldn’t be my favorite spot anymore😉. If I had to choose, Hanakapiai Trail is my go to hike.
Q. Fun fact:
A. I opened a health food store in Waimea after attending a vegan chef in training course a number of years a
go; I called it Happy Mango’s Healthy Hale. I’m hoping to bring more healthy options to Hale Kiele here at the Ocean Course.
